Modern Design in Rural Quebec

Amid southern Quebec farmland, with views of fields in every direction, a place to connect and gather rises into the sky. The first luxury hotel in the small town of Saint-Hyacinthe, The Sheraton Saint-Hyacinthe Hotel creates an unparalleled experience. As owner Marc Bibeau explains, “We wanted to create a whole ambience, a whole experience, not just a place to come and do your business, but a space to interact and simply be.”

Designed to connect to both the Saint-Hyacinthe Convention Center and the Galeries St-Hyacinthe shopping mall, the space not only includes enclosed bridges between the three buildings but also embraces wide open spaces scattered with smaller, curated spaces where people can gather. The goal to welcome large numbers of convention attendees, while avoiding intimidatingly large rooms, was achieved with a free-flowing lobby area that transitions smoothly into the convention center’s lobby. Collections of sofas and chairs cozily arranged around fireplaces encourage small groups to break out of larger gatherings. Even Le Barsa Lounge, the hotel bar, is open and inviting while also easily closed off for smaller gatherings.

Drawing from the town’s agricultural roots, the design elements all harken back to farming and even the meals and restaurant menus draw from the seasonal harvest.

While the hotel itself, a luxury space in a small agricultural town, was a risk, it has become a success story in the area. “The response has been great from the citizens of Saint-Hyacinthe,” says Bibeau. “This hotel is beyond what anyone was expecting.”
